2013 CM Equine Extravaganza & Aunt Shauna Benefit
Aunt Shauna grew up in Smithville, MO where she still lives and has worked as a nurse for nearly 30 years for the Spellman Memorial Hospital of Smithville, now Saint Lukes Health Care System. She is one of those rare people that makes a very positive impact on the lives of all those that meet her. Shauna and her husband Tony have two sons and two young grandchildren. In the summer of 2009 Shauna sustained a very rare and practically undiagnosed spinal injury that has left her paralyzed from her chest down, barely leaving her with enough strength in her arms to be able to hold her 6 month old grandchild. Insurance benefits are rapidly dwindling and disability is barely better than nothing. Her medical bills are constantly increasing with no end in sight and every experimental treatment/procedure gets more expensive with time.
